Create your first project

From "New project" to the first booked hour — and seeing it land in Controlling.

A project is the container for everything you deliver for one customer — its tickets, booked hours, external costs and invoices all hang off it. This walk-through takes you from an empty workspace to the first booked hour showing up in Controlling.

Prerequisite: at least one service and one customer exist. If not, do the Quickstart: services, customers & projects first.

1. Create the project

Open Projects → New project (Project Managers and Admins):

  • Pick the customer.
  • Give the project a title — docket assigns the project number (PNR) you'll see on documents and reports.
  • Choose the budget:
    • Hours — a fixed pool of time,
    • Hours per month — a time retainer,
    • Amount — a fixed fee,
    • Amount per month — a recurring fee.
  • Assign the team — supervisors run the project; assignments also control what Timetracker-role users get to see.

docket sets the working environment up for you: planning boards are created, and a first ticket — "General / Briefing" — is waiting, assigned to the supervisors. So time can be booked from minute one, before any real tickets exist.

2. Check the rates

Open Project → Settings: every service is listed with the rate this project will bill at — your account defaults, overridden by customer rates, overridden by project rates you can set right here (see the rate cascade). Thirty seconds of checking now keeps every number that follows correct.

3. Plan the work — or don't, yet

Create tickets on the project's board and lay phases out on the roadmap when you're ready. For a quick start, the General ticket is enough — briefings, mails and project management time have a home there.

4. Book the first time

From Timetracking (or directly on a ticket): pick the ticket, the service (what kind of work it was), the duration — booked in 15-minute steps — and a short note. The entry immediately carries the right rate from step 2.

5. Watch it land

Open Project → Controlling: the booked entry is there, with hours for everyone and revenue for Project Managers — measured against the budget you set. Numbers, not vibes.

Want the customer to see the hours too? Publish a shared report link from Controlling — read-only, no login required, and you control what it reveals.
