Welcome to docket

What docket is, how the pieces fit together, and where to start.

docket brings ticketing, time tracking and accounting for agencies under one roof. Instead of stitching together three tools — and losing the numbers in the gaps between them — your projects, the hours booked against them, and the money they earn all live in one place.

This knowledge base does two things: it introduces the core concepts you need on day one — projects, rates, roles — and explains the advanced features (invoice types, custom fields, the Jira sync) in enough detail that you can use them with confidence. Skim the former, come back for the latter.

The idea in one loop

Agency work is a loop, and docket follows it end to end:

  1. Quote it — build a quotation from phases, positions and your real service rates.
  2. Plan it — the project gets boards and a roadmap; work becomes tickets.
  3. Track it — every hour is booked against a ticket, at the rate that project actually bills.
  4. Bill it — invoices (advance, partial, final) come straight from what was quoted and what was booked. External costs ride along, ready to pass through.
  5. Learn from it — Controlling shows budget vs. booked per project; the forecast shows what's coming.

Because every step feeds the next, the numbers you see are never estimates assembled by hand — they're the same data, viewed from different angles.

The pieces

  • Projects & tickets — the work itself, organised on boards and a roadmap. Planning in Jira? Link a project and time flows both ways.
  • Time tracking — hours booked against tickets in 15-minute steps, measured against each person's working hours.
  • Accounting — quotations and invoices with proper numbering, plus external costs for the money going out.
  • Workload — who's loaded, who's free, across everything that's open.
  • Roles — four permission levels decide who sees the money and who just sees the work.

Where to start

  1. Quickstart: services, customers & projects — set up the three building blocks and understand how rates cascade.
  2. Create your first project — from zero to the first booked hour.
  3. Inviting your team — add people, pick roles.
