Working hours (work times)

Give every person a weekly hours profile so docket knows what a full day looks like.

Work times tell docket how many hours each person is supposed to work, per weekday: 8-8-8-8-8 for full time, 8-8-8-0-0 for someone working Monday to Wednesday, and so on. They're the yardstick booked time is measured against.

What they're used for

  • The time-tracking dashboard shows each day's booked total against the day's target ("6:00 of 8h") — so everyone sees at a glance whether the day is fully tracked.
  • Weekly and monthly stats on the personal time-tracking view compare booked hours to the person's target for the week/month.

Work times do not limit anything — someone can book more or less than their target; the target just makes gaps and overshoots visible.

Setting them up

Work times are part of a person's profile and are managed by Admins under Admin → Users → (person) → Work times. When you create a user, their first work-time profile is part of the form. Everyone can see their own profile in their settings.

A profile has:

  • Active from — the date it starts to apply.
  • Hours per weekday — Monday through Sunday.

Contract changes: keep the history

Don't edit the existing profile when someone's hours change — add a new one with the new active from date. docket always applies the profile that was active on the day in question, so past days keep their old targets and the history stays truthful. One profile per start date; the most recent one that has begun applies.

Example: Anna works full time (8h Mon–Fri). From March 1st she reduces to four days. Add a new profile, active from March 1st, with 8-8-8-8-0. February's dashboard still shows "of 8h" on Fridays; from March, Fridays show no target.

Good to know

  • New workspaces start without profiles for signup-created accounts — set them up when you invite the team so the dashboard targets appear.
  • Weekend days with 0 hours simply show no target — booked weekend time still counts normally.
