Notifications
What lands in your notification inbox, what triggers an email, and who gets notified when.
docket keeps you posted in two ways: the notification inbox in the app and emails. Both fire from the same events, so you can rely on either.
The notification inbox
The bell in the sidebar shows your unread count and updates in real time — no refresh needed. Click it to open the inbox, where every notification links straight to the ticket or document it's about.
Following: who gets notified
Notifications go to the people following a ticket, project or document. You start following automatically when something becomes yours:
- you create a ticket or document,
- you're assigned to a ticket, or added as an internal contact on a document,
- you're made a supervisor of a project,
- you comment on something.
You can also follow anything by hand with the Follow button (the bell) on a ticket, in a project's header, or next to a document's comments. Pressing it again stops the notifications. Every email ends with a line saying why you got it and where to switch it off.
An unfollow sticks: further comments in the thread won't pull you back in. Only being assigned again (or made supervisor again) does, because then the thing is yours again.
You never get notified about your own actions.
What triggers a notification (and an email)
On tickets:
| Event | Who's notified |
|---|---|
| You're assigned to / unassigned from a ticket | you |
| A comment is added | the ticket's followers |
| The ticket is closed or reopened | the ticket's followers |
| You're @-mentioned in the ticket or a comment | you |
On projects: following a project tells you when a new ticket is created in it. That's a single heads-up, and it doesn't make you follow the ticket itself. To hear about its comments and status changes, follow the ticket. If you're assigned to the new ticket or mentioned in it, you get that notification instead, not both.
On billing documents (quotations, order confirmations, invoices, delivery notes): comments notify the document's followers and the project's followers. That includes the project supervisors, so document comments are a reliable place for internal sign-off discussions ("approve this quote?"). If you follow both the document and its project, you still get one email.
Elsewhere: when an external cost is assigned to you (or responsibility moves), you get an email. New team members receive a welcome email with a link to set their password.
@-Mentions
Type @ in any ticket description, ticket comment or document comment to mention
a teammate. They're notified once, right away. A mention doesn't make them follow
the thread: being named in a conversation isn't the same as wanting the rest of
it. If they're already following, the mention doesn't add a second notification.
Which projects am I following?
Your own profile has a Following card listing the projects you follow, each with its bell so you can unfollow on the spot. All followed projects opens the project list filtered to them. You can also add the Following filter to the project list yourself. Only you can see what you follow; it isn't shown on your profile to others.
Can I turn notifications off?
There's no global switch, but you control what you follow: unfollow any ticket, project or document with its bell and its notifications stop.
